Eggs Benedict Casserole
Many are afraid of trying to make eggs Benedict because it seems complicated. This casserole takes all of the complications out of the recipe and makes it just about delicious flavors. No poaching eggs, but instead you get the same tender texture and flavor in an easier-to-serve crowd-pleasing dish.
What Should I Serve with Eggs Benedict Casserole?
As this is such a rich dish, you will want to pair it with the lighter fare on the side. A classic choice would be some fresh fruit or yogurt. You can also serve it with an extra serving of breakfast meat such as sausage or bacon.
And if you want something a bit sweet on the side, it can be served with a muffin or sweet bread. Of course, I love this brioche French toast casserole to balance the richness of flavors. ]
For brunch, you may also add more vegetables to the side. A roasted squash or zucchini is great, but a classic asparagus with a drizzle of hollandaise sauce would be ideal, or our asparagus casserole is another tasty option.
Ingredients:
- 7 English muffins: You can find English muffins in the bread aisle of the grocery store.
- 6 tablespoon butter, melted: Salted or unsalted butter will work well for this recipe.
- 6 slices ham or bacon, sliced: Savory bacon or ham adds salt, so be sure to account for that when adding in any extra salt.
- 8 eggs: Use fresh, large AA eggs.
- 2โ3 cup milk: Whole milk is best rather than low or no-fat milk.
- 1โ2 cup cream: Heavy whipping cream can be found in the dairy section of the grocery store.
- 1โ2 teaspoon garlic powder: Garlic powder goes a long way, so only a little is needed.
- 1โ2 teaspoon smoked paprika: Smoked paprika is different from more commonly used sweet paprika.
- 1 teaspoon salt: Use kosher salt rather than table salt which can taste metallic.
- 1 teaspoon mustard: Yellow mustard helps balance the richer flavors of the other ingredients.
- chives and hollandaise sauce for serving: Finely diced chives are perfect on top of this dish. You can buy ready-made or make your own homemade hollandaise sauce.
How to make eggs benedict casserole:
Video Recipe:
Before you begin making this breakfast bake, I recommend you take the time to spray your baking dish with non-stick spray or lightly butter it. This will help make cleanup easier. I used a 9"x13" baking dish for this, but you can use any larger dish you have. Additionally, if you are going to make homemade hollandaise sauce, do this now so it is ready for serving once the casserole is done cooking.
1. Preheat the oven to 375ยฐF/190ยฐC.
2. Cut the English muffins in half and tear them into medium-sized pieces.
3. Mix pieces of muffin with sliced ham. Pour melted butter on top.
4. Whisk eggs with cream, milk, mustard, and spices.
5. Pour egg mixture on top of the bread. You can bake the casserole right away or cover it and let it sit in the fridge up to overnight.
6. Bake for 30 minutes covered with foil, then remove the foil and bake for 25 minutes more or until golden and crispy.
7. Serve hot topped with fresh chives and a drizzle of prepared hollandaise sauce.
FAQs:
What is Eggs Florentine versus Eggs Benedict?
The primary difference between the two is the addition of spinach in eggs florentine. Eggs florentine may also be served without the ham or Canadian bacon, while eggs benedict will always include one of these.
Can You Reheat Eggs Benedict Casserole?
Absolutely! When ready to reheat, you can pop it back into the oven at 350ยฐF for 10 to 15 minutes, or can easily microwave it in 30-second increments until heated through.
How Long Can Eggs Benedict Last in the Fridge?
Eggs benedict casserole or regular eggs benedict can both last for up to 2 days in the refrigerator. Make sure they are tightly sealed in an airtight container.
You can also freeze this for up to 3 months. If frozen, you will want to thaw it overnight in the refrigerator before heating it in the oven to serve.
Can I Add Vegetables to Eggs Benedict Casserole?
This is a fresh, springtime dish that deserves some vegetables that complement that lightness. Try spinach, tomatoes, asparagus, artichoke hearts, zucchini, yellow squash, or green onions. These veggies are in-season in the spring and will work well with the other ingredients in this dish.
What Other Proteins Can I Replace the Ham With?
Traditional eggs Benedict is made with Canadian bacon or ham. You can easily use a different meat or protein if you prefer, and you may find a number of variations in restaurants for inspiration.
Some popular ideas that pair well with the flavors of this dish include smoked salmon, crab, scallops, and shredded chicken. You can also use more traditional breakfast meats such as sausage or bacon if you prefer.
