What Do I Serve With a Breakfast Casserole
If you are looking for something to serve with your breakfast casserole, it will depend on your preferences and how you plan to serve this. It's ideal all by itself, but if you are like me, you want something alongside a heavier casserole. Below are some options that pair well with this.
- Fruit salad or sliced fresh fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, peaches, pineapple, apples, or even your favorite melon.
- A fruit smoothie or smoothie with added greens like spinach or kale.
- Your favorite Greek yogurt for more protein, or any simple yogurt you enjoy.
And, if this is part of a brunch or breakfast buffet with friends and family, then you can add on other items such as muffins, sweet bread, a danish, or even just a side of bacon or ham. Waffles, pancakes, and French toast are additional ideas that can be a good pairing if eating a smaller portion of this casserole.

Chef's Tip
For extra flavor, add 1 teaspoon of each black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder to the batter. If desired, add chopped onion and 2 to 3 minced garlic cloves to the sausage while it cooks to add into the mixture for more flavor. And for those who are really adventerous, you can make a homemade sausage for a more unique flavor.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Can I Use in Place of Bisquick?
I love using store-bought Bisquick because I can buy a box and keep it on hand for recipes like this. It is incredibly easy. However, if you can not find it in the store or just don't have it on hand, there are a few things you can use in its place.
You could make your own Bisquick mix. There are a lot of options to make your own online but I tend to combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ยผ teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon sugar. You can then add 6 tablespoons of cold butter and pulse in a food processor until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Another option is to use pancake mix. This will work in a pinch but I find that it doesn't have the same consistency as Bisquick so the final product may be a little different.
The last option is to use another all-purpose baking mix. I grew up using Bisquick, but am not opposed to other brands or even the store brand when available.
Can I Add Vegetables to Bisquick Casserole?
I am using sausage, egg, and cheese in my casserole. However, I love changing things up and adding in additional vegetables. Some other great options are:
-Diced bell peppers
-Diced onions
-Chopped spinach
-Zucchini
-Tomatoes
- Mushrooms
-Kale or spinach
Adding vegetables is a great way to add additional nutrients, fiber, and flavor to your casserole. Another idea is adding salsa. This has added seasoning in addition to the veggies. Just make sure when you add anything that you remove any moisture ahead of time so the casserole keeps the same consistency and texture.
Can I Make This Breakfast Casserole Ahead of Time?
You can absolutely make this casserole ahead of time. I would recommend making it the night before and then baking it in the morning. You could also bake it and then reheat it throughout the week.
Can Bisquick Breakfast Casserole Be Frozen?
Yes! This can be frozen both baked and unbaked. If you want to make it to bake at a later date, I recommend doing so by assembling it in an aluminum baking dish or disposable dish that can go from the freezer to the refrigerator to the oven seamlessly.
If baking and freezing leftovers, just cut into portions and wrap them first in plastic wrap, then place those pieces into a freezer storage bag or wrap them in aluminum foil.
Always make sure that you also include the recipe name, direction for baking, and the date it was prepared. This should be good in the freezer for 3 to 4 months.
